Out of the Darkness Community Walks
Mike and Tammi Ginsberg chaired this 2019's Out of the Darkness walk in Montgomery County. More than 500 supporters came together for the Out of the Darkness walk, and raised over $80,000. It was a day filled with hope, strength, tears, hugs and community.
Your support is helping us to bring crucial programs to our community, and one step closer to our goal of reducing the suicide rate 20% by 2025. For more information on 2020's Out of the Darkness walk, you may contact us here, or register for the walk today.

Thriving Germantown
In the summer of 2015, we started discussions with Nora Dietz, the Principal of Captain James E. Daly Elementary school (DES) about the needs within her school. The Thriving Germantown pilot emerged on-site at DES to implement a Community HUB Pathway to coordinate services with the school, MCPS, Montgomery Government, social service organizations, healthcare providers, hospitals, businesses and volunteers to address the following three goals for DES parents and children:
Improve academic achievement for students attending DES.
|
Assure safe, stable, nurturing relationships and environments for all DES children and families.
|
Improve health outcomes for children and families.

Helping Germantown residents in need
Germantown Coalition strives to assist local families. In 2017, we made a family in Germantown very happy. Principal Dietz of DES notified the Coalition that three of her students were sleeping on the floor and in desperate need of a bunk bed that sleeps three. Within hours, the Seneca Valley football coach and his wonderful team at the ACE Project located and delivered a 3-way bunk bed. Other people also donated dressers, night stands and clothing.
Germantown Coalition community dinner
Germantown Coalition teamed up with Coalition Homes (CH) to provide dinner for the residents of the Ashmore based in Germantown. The residents are all formerly homeless men and women who now live in a beautiful condo provided by the fine people of CH. CH is an affiliate of MCCH, the only developer of permanent supportive housing in Montgomery County. Residents were served a fantastic dinner consisting of chicken, pasta, beans, corn and desserts. Volunteers and residents spent quality time together talking and laughing, enjoying each others company.
Barbeque for the tenants of Seneca Heights
In August 2016, Germantown Coalition hosted a barbeque and backpack give away for the tenants of Seneca Heights, a homeless housing development in our region. It was a terrific event filled with lots of laughs and cheer. Volunteers provided lots of great food, flipped burgers and dogs, filled backpacks and played with the children. Residents are still talking about that evening.
